How the UET Lahore merit aggregate is calculated
UET Lahore weights an Intermediate applicant's merit as Matric 17%, FSc First Year 50% and the ECAT 33%. Half the decision is your FSc Part-I result, which makes UET noticeably kinder to a strong school student than NUST or GIKI, where the entry test carries 75% and 85% respectively.
Two details cost applicants points every year. The first is that it uses FSc first year, Part-I only, not your combined two-year Intermediate total. The second is that the ECAT is marked out of 400, not 100. Entering a score of 280 against a total of 100 would multiply the test's contribution by four and give you a nonsense aggregate. The total field above is pre-filled with 400 as a reminder.
UET publishes separate weightings for applicants without the ECAT, and for DAE and A-Level backgrounds. All four are in the selector. The UET admissions portal works out the ECAT and non-ECAT figures side by side. UET also requires a minimum aggregate of 50% to be considered. That is a cut-off applied after the sum, not part of it.
The Formula
Component % = (Obtained ÷ Total) × 100Intermediate + ECAT: Matric × 0.17 + First Year × 0.50 + ECAT × 0.33Intermediate, no ECAT: Matric × 0.25 + First Year × 0.75DAE + ECAT: First Year × 0.335 + Second Year × 0.335 + ECAT × 0.33A Level + ECAT: O Level equivalence × 0.67 + ECAT × 0.33Transcribed from UET Lahore's own merit calculator on its admissions portal, which prints each component's weight beside its input.
Worked Examples
Example 1: a standard ECAT applicant
ECAT 280 out of 400, FSc First Year 460 out of 550, Matric 940 out of 1100.
| ECAT percentage | (280 ÷ 400) × 100 = 70.00% |
|---|---|
| ECAT contribution (33%) | 70.00 × 0.33 = 23.10 |
| First Year percentage | (460 ÷ 550) × 100 = 83.64% |
| First Year contribution (50%) | 83.64 × 0.50 = 41.82 |
| Matric percentage | (940 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 85.45% |
| Matric contribution (17%) | 85.45 × 0.17 = 14.53 |
Example 2: the same student on the non-ECAT formula
Identical school marks, but applying to a programme that admits without the entry test.
| First Year contribution (75%) | 83.64 × 0.75 = 62.73 |
|---|---|
| Matric contribution (25%) | 85.45 × 0.25 = 21.36 |
| Difference from the ECAT route | 84.09 − 79.45 = +4.64 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ECAT out of 400 or 100?
400. UET's own merit calculator labels the field 'Test Obtained (out of 400)'. Enter your raw score against a total of 400. Converting it to a mark out of 100 yourself is the most common way a UET aggregate goes wrong.
Does UET use FSc Part-I or my full Intermediate result?
First Year, meaning Part-I. UET's calculator labels the row 'First Year' and weights it at 50% on the ECAT route. Enter your Part-I marks against the Part-I total.
What is the difference between the ECAT and non-ECAT aggregate?
The non-ECAT formula redistributes the test's 33% into the school components, giving Matric 25% and First Year 75%. UET computes both for every applicant; which one decides your admission depends on the programme you are applying to.
I have a DAE. Which scheme applies?
The DAE track, which drops Matric entirely and weights DAE First Year and Second Year at 33.5% each alongside the 33% ECAT. Without the ECAT it is 50% and 50%.
What about Hafiz-e-Quran or sports marks?
UET's calculator has a separate 'Additional Marks' field for those, added on top of the weighted aggregate. They are awarded case by case on documentation, so they are not included here. Add them to the figure this calculator gives you.
Is there a minimum aggregate to be considered?
Yes, UET states applicants must secure at least a 50% aggregate for consideration. That is a floor, not the closing merit. Actual closing merit for Electrical or Computer Engineering at the main campus sits far above it.
